What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is an experience to assist the making of inner changes, which then reflects improvement in a person’s total life experience. It is about “getting (experiencing) more of what you want and less of what you don’t want.” The field of psychotherapy consists of a huge collection of approaches, techniques, methods, which can be utilized selectively for the purpose of accomplishing desired change. Two of the most important factors are always: 1) the willingness of the person to change, and 2) the relationship between the client(s) and their therapist.

My Approach
In my 30 years of experience, I have studied many effective techniques and modalities. From my toolbox of possibilities, we will choose together the ones that will be most helpful for your unique personality, situation and goals. Even more importantly, however, my natural ability to engage people feelingfully has become an integral part of who I am as a therapist.

Together we create a safe place for you to come to know yourself better and to explore your fears, challenges, dreams and questions. You may want to explore issues from the past that get in the way of living your life fully today. We are a team. You know where you want to grow. And I bring my many years of experience helping people to come to know themselves better.

I listen to your unique needs. I join with you in your desires, purposes and intentions. I provide creative ways for you to make the changes you want to make.

You may want healthier relationships. You may want to feel better about your self. You may want someone to share thoughts and feelings with. There may be stuck places that need some attention, or memories that need to be reprocessed and released. You may want help in dealing with stress or with brain chemistry imbalances.

I support you in going through the process of exploration, change and growth. In addition to the goals you have for yourself, my goal for you is to help you to gain a bigger perspective of your life, your challenges, and your strengths. I support you in seeing the possibilities that you can grow into.

Over the years, I have found ways to make my practice especially productive for those I work with. I make a commitment to provide the best possible services.

I seek always to join with you where you are at, without criticism, and to help you adopt an attitude of curiosity. I honor your spirit in going at the pace you need to go. I keep my schedule free enough to give you the attention you need. This enables me to provide exceptional service.

It is important to me to be able to provide my services in the way that you and I deem most appropriate. Therefore, I have chosen not to be a provider with HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) where our options are limited. I am licensed in the states of Maine and Massachusetts and I am happy to send statements to any insurance providers who will allow you to choose the therapist that best provides for your needs. I keep my rates reasonable and in line with other professionals in the area.

I maintain a dedicated level of expertise through continual training, so that you get the advantage of the most recent research and techniques, in both the traditional medical and holistic models.

And finally, I offer a calm, healing environment — a setting that most supports you in learning how to create a calm, healing environment inside yourself.
